Volunteers
The Berrigan Shire is fortunate to have a significant number of volunteers who work within the community assisting others.
This incredible work by our volunteers was recognised at the Murray Region 2008 NSW Volunteer of the Year Awards. Three very worthy nominees represented the Berrigan Shire: Alan Jones from Tocumwal, Barry Dawe from Finley and Jean Dodd from Barooga.
In a splendid result for our region, the Shire nominees were successful in two categories. Alan Jones won the Murray Region Senior Volunteer of the Year Award and Jean Dodd won the overall Murray Region Volunteer of the Year Award.
Both will now go on to compete with winners from 15 other regions across New South Wales for the Volunteer of the Year Award. A ceremony to announce the State winner will be held on International Volunteer Day - December 5 - at Parliament House, Sydney.
Congratulations to all our nominees.
Nominations for the 2009 NSW Volunteer of the Year Awards close 30 September, visit our "News and Events" page for further information. Also on the "News and Events" page is a link to the 2009 National Survey of Volunteering Issues.
