General Information

Council Meetings are held on every third Wednesday of the month, commencing at 9.15am in the Council Chambers, Chanter Street, Berrigan

Council allocates 15 minutes for question time from residents to the Council or senior staff relating to Council activities which commences at 9.00am prior to the Council meeting. Ratepayers are encouraged to attend Council Meetings.

Vision for the Shire

The Berrigan Shire Council's vision  was developed at the Shire's (29 June 2011) Futures Conference and it reflects the top five (5) preferred futures of our communities that in 2022

  1. Families with young children will want to live in or come to the area
  2. People will be more concerned about their health and wellbeing
  3. Tourists will go out  of their way to come to the area
  4. There will be more business owned and run by local people
  5. Transport connections between here and other places will be faster and or busier

The Berrigan Shire Council's Vision and that of its communities is that

In 2022 we will be recognised as a Shire that builds on and promotes our natural assets and advanatages to create employment and economic activity to attract residents, families and tourists.

To achieve this vision Council will act as the community's advocate to help shape Federal and State and corporate policies to better reflect and service our community and to ensure that residents are fairly treated and serviced by Federal and State Governments and corporate policies - Partnership

The Council will engage with its communities to enable people to have a sense of belonging and pride in the community - Quality of Life

Council will also contribute toward the quality of life enjoyed by residents and visitor by promoting a safe and clean environment where social and community values are paramount - Infrastructure

It will do this by ensuring that a properly planned and maintained infrastructure and service network is provided including:

  • roads and transport systems drainage
  • waste management
  • water and sewer services
  • recreation facilities
  • parks and gardens
  • buildings and properties
  • libraries
  • community and cultural services

Economic Development

An area which is economically prosperous through:

  • Agriculture
  • Tourism
  • Human services
  • Business support to existing and new businesses
  • Fostering job creation
  • Encouraging diversification/value adding
  • Attraction of new businesses

Access to Services

To provide an environment where the community has a range of public and private services available that are appropriate to its diverse needs.

Demonstrated Quality and Value for Money

That the Council is an organisation which will be customer focused and will deliver demonstrated quality and value for money services by:-

  • Benchmarking
