Council has become increasingly aware that a considerable amount of garden and green waste is being illegally dumped on vacant allotments in Barooga particularly in the vicinity of Vermont Street, Gypsie Crescent, Isabel Avenue and the surrounding areas.
Piles of garden and green waste are unsightly and create havens for vermin and snakes and are not appropriate in or adjacent to residential areas. Considerable time, effort and expense is incurred by the owners of these vacant lots in cleaning up and disposing of such waste.
The unlawful disposal of waste and littering are offences under the Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997 and are viewed most seriously by Council. Where offenders are identified Penalty Infringement Notices will be issued and Council asks that residents in these areas be vigilant in deterring these activities.
