Mayors Message 23 August 2017

23/08/2017

Last Wednesday I had the pleasure of attending Dawmac Industries 50 years celebration with my fellow councillors. What Dawmac Industries provides to our community through goods and service along with employment opportunities is something they should be proud of. Also the community work they have done over the years and continue to do needs to commended.

The Council has agreed to provide the Berrigan community with a Bendigo Bank agency within the council. This is something that the Berrigan community have advocated over a period of time and this will now start to move forward and the residents of Berrigan with have a face to face banking facilities retained in the town within the near future.

Council farewelled staff of our early intervention service last week, reluctantly the Council’s involvement in this service has now ceased however the new provider Kurrajong Therapy Plus will take over and continue to provide this service through a seamless transition. Margaret Graham, the face of this service, and most of the other staff have transitioned to the new providers so it will be business as usual. One remaining staff member has been redeployed to another position within the Council. We thank Margaret and all of the staff for all their dedication, passion and vision for this service over the last 12 years.

Council will soon survey community expression of interest for free or subsidised removal of unwanted fruit trees under the Queensland fruit fly program.

Finally, Thank you to those that filled out on line survey for the Stronger Country Communities fund projects that has helped the Council prioritize these.
