2009 National Survey of Volunteering Issues
Volunteering Australia’s 2009 ‘National Survey of Volunteering Issues’ is now open
Volunteering Australia invites all volunteers and not for profit organisations that involve volunteers, as well as business organisations that have employee volunteering programs, to participate in the 2009 National Survey of Volunteering Issues.
The National Survey of Volunteering Issues helps Volunteering Australia understand what issues are emerging in the sector and what factors help or hinder effective volunteering. Volunteering Australia uses this information to formulate policy advice to government, and also to target where our research and consultation efforts should be directed.
This is the fourth National Survey of Volunteering Issues, which includes questions and themes from previous years’ surveys to enable us to compare and track volunteering trends, as well as some new themes such as employee volunteering, the measurement of volunteer contribution and volunteers’ sense of community belonging. The survey has also been refined to make it easier for you to respond.
The survey takes around 15 minutes to complete, and is open until 30 October. Access the survey by clicking on the following link:

The 2009 National Survey of Volunteering Issues report will be released on Friday the 4 December in celebration of International Volunteer Day (Saturday 5 December).

Canola Festival
Sunday 13th September saw a beautiful day for the 2009 Canola Festival, starting with a Street Parade from Jerilderie Street and winding up through Chanter Street then down to the Berrigan Sportsground for displays and stalls.

Berrigan Mosaics

Adding a splash of colour to the Cobram Street side of the Berrigan Library, Mayor Cr John Bruce, unveiled a series of four mosaics titled “Reflections of Berrigan” on Sunday 13 September 2009 as part of the Berrigan Canola festival. The mosaics have proved to be a popular addition to the Berrigan townscape.
The mosaics – created by local artist Janice Graham with creative input and assistance from the children from Berrigan Public School and St Columba’s school – depict various aspects of the history and culture of the Berrigan district, including agriculture, architecture, sport and volunteering.
The mosaics were funded by Berrigan Shire Council with assistance from the Country Arts Support Program run by Regional Arts New South Wales, and demonstrate the Council’s commitment to public arts as identified in its 2008-2011 Cultural Plan.

Water 4 Food
“Everything Green We Eat, Needs Water to Grow!”
Water4Food Australia is a community-based, non-partisan program maintaining a dialogue with the Australian and NSW governments seeking to protect water allocations for the production of food in the Murray, Murrumbidgee, Lachlan Valley and Lower Murray Darling catchments.
The Riverina and Murray Regional Organisation of Councils RAMROC is coordinating this important community and government relations strategy on behalf of 18 local government councils and their communities of around 200,000 people in south-west New South Wales.
The objectives of the W4F program are to roll out an integrated strategy to protect communities, food producers and processors from the impacts of:
- political and regulatory responses to drought and climate change
- market reforms which unfairly restrict the availability of water for food production
- environmental extremism
For further information please visit the RAMROC website www.ramroc.org.au and the Water4Food website www.water4food.com.au
