Holding Events in Council Parks or Reserves
Berrigan Shire Council has some spectacular parks suitable for passive recreational activities such as weddings, birthday parties, photos and other special events. Many parks have established formal gardens with large trees whilst others line the foreshore of the Bullanginya Creek at Barooga or the Murray River at Tocumwal.
These activities are permitted in Council’s parks or reserves, with no fee charged, however in order to maintain our parks as a pleasant and safe venue for residents and visitors alike, and to minimize the chance of something spoiling your event, the Council has developed guidelines, as listed below, which must be adhered to. In order to ensure that your event runs smoothly please ensure you fill out the Event Preliminary Checklist which can be accessed by clicking on the link or via email or post.
Please also download the Event Management Guide, a guide for organisers, this is also available via email or by calling 03) 5888 5100.
Conditions
It is important the Council is notified of your event, so we can advise you of any other activities which may conflict with your date and to be able to inform others wishing to use the facility. It is also important that you are advised of what our conditions of use are and of any further information we may require.
With any event, the following conditions will apply:.jpg)
- No setting up of furniture or structures;
- No special vehicle access is allowed;
- No confetti or rice;
- All orders and warnings pertaining to the park must be observed;
- Any decorations/rubbish, etc must be removed by the user following the event.
Venues
When considering a venue, it is important to consider the size of the group who will be using the facility, the nature of the facility, parking and vehicle accessibility and any hazards that exist in the area. It is also important to remember the venue must be left in a clean and tidy state otherwise Council may seek reimbursement for cleaning or repairs.
Notification
If you intend to hold a wedding in a park, or a social gathering of significant size, you should notify Council of your intent via email mail@berriganshire.nsw.gov.au with the following information:
- Your name
- Your choice of park and nominated location within the park;
- Date and time (start and finish)
- Approximate number of people attending; and
- Your contact details (email and phone number)
Or call 03) 5888 5100 with the information.
The size and type of event and any additional requests may determine the need to submit a Development Application and an Indemnity Agreement. Upon notifying Council of your event, we will advise you of any additional information that may be required.
Once we have been notified, the Works Department will make a notation in the calendar as a community service. This is not to be seen as a booking and nominating your date does not mean the park area is for your own exclusive use.
Major events, park developments or maintenance activities may require your event to be relocated or rescheduled. The closer to your specified day you are able to register in the park, the less likely other activities are to impact on your event.
Please understand, not everyone contacts Berrigan Shire Council, and there may be other activities occurring on that day.
