Berrigan Shire Council is pleased to release the Draft Heritage Study 2025 for community comment and review.

This study has been prepared in-house by Council officers with the assistance of Touring The Past heritage advisors, and funded through a grant from the NSW Government, Environment and Heritage. The draft study identifies all existing heritage properties and conservation areas already listed in the Berrigan Local Environmental Plan. Importantly, no new properties are proposed for inclusion at this time.

The purpose of the study is to provide clear guidance to property owners and Council officers when preparing and assessing Development Applications. It has been developed as a direct response to the Community Strategic Plan 2040 and the Delivery Program 2025–2029, ensuring our heritage management aligns with long-term community priorities.

Council is now inviting feedback from the community through Have Your Say. The draft study will be available for public review and comment until Monday, 2 February 2026. Following this consultation period, Council officers will consider all submissions, make any agreed or necessary changes, and present the final study to Council for adoption.

We encourage all residents and stakeholders to take part in this important process and help shape the future of heritage management in our Shire.
