Mayors Message
June 2021

Congratulations to Arthur Owen on receiving an order of Australia Medal. ‘Artie’, as he is better known throughout the district, has dedicated his service to both football and cricket umpiring over many decades. Well done Artie!

Having recently had my first Pfizer shot, I am now due to have my second jab on 24 June 2021. I encourage all those that are eligible to get vaccinated. With the virus still being active in hotel quarantine, the sooner we are vaccinated the sooner we can get back to a new normal. Make sure to talk to your GP about your eligibility.

Border closures have once again had an impact on many businesses across our Shire and region. This further indicates that getting the vaccine is important to us all.

It was extremely disappointing that the Good Times Festival had to be postponed due to the uncertainty with the border closures. The new date of 30 & 31 July, is something for all to look forward to.

Our LED Light Program is now complete across the Shire. Having witnessed the quality of lighting at the Recreation Reserves, I am confident that all who use the oval will benefit from the upgrade.

Finley’s newest park; Foundry Park is coming along nicely. This will be a major attraction to passing traffic, locals and businesses in the main shopping precinct.
Our new CEO, Karina Ewer and I attended The Australian Local Government Association, for the 27th National General Assembly in Canberra this week. This platform allows motions to be debated on a national level.

I was able to take Karina around our Shire and show her the projects that are underway and proposed future works. One being Coree Street upgrade in Finley, which is now complete. We thank residents for their patience over the works period, the final result is an asset to the street scape.

Much needed rain has again fallen at the right time, with most of our farming community having sowing down their winter crops.

Finally, both the Tocumwal Aviation Museum and the Foreshore building are making good progress. We look forward to these facilities attracting many more visitors to the Berrigan Shire.

- Mayor Cr. Matthew Hannan
