Now that our swimming season has come to an end I’d like to thank all those who assist with allowing our pools to be accessible to our communities. From the lifeguards to the volunteers and Committees of Management that run these facilities - we appreciate the efforts you go to.
Advertising for our the replacement of our General Manager have now closed and over the next few weeks short listing and then interviews will commence to appoint Rowan’s replacement.
Recently, the General Manager and I attended a round table meeting with the Federal Water Minister, Keith Pitt, the Environment Minister, Sussan Ley, Senators Bridget McKenzie and Perrin Davey. The RAMJO Water Sub-Committee presented its Water Position Paper to the elected representatives.
Council has now purchased the old motel and hardware store in Murray Street, Tocumwal. This was a strategic purchase to address ongoing concerns about the lack of parking options. The Council is now investigating design options for a future car park
We recently met with the directors of Strawberry Fields. They are working towards holding a Good Times festive in Tocumwal. They were able to secure two years funding from the Federal Government to put on family friendly music and entertainment in Tocumwal. Stay tuned for more information around this highly anticipated event.
Our Business Awards are just around the corner and with one of the strongest line up of businesses, it will be an event not to miss. Make sure you vote and with over 400 votes already received, we look forward to the night to reveal the winners.
Winter sport looks to start over the Easter weekend. Clubs and their committees are eagerly awaiting the season to start and for the participants I’m sure after the majority missing out last year can’t wait to apply their trade on the field or court again.
Unfortunately, I could not attend International Women’s Day this year but from the feedback I’ve received the guest speaker Kathy Mexted entertained the crowd and the event again was a great success. Well done to our library staff for organizing the event.
Finally, I have had many comments about the painting project in the Main Street of Finley. It has given the Main Street a real lift and with the park soon to be finished, we look forward to the businesses being able to capitalise on the traffic that has again started to flow through our communities.
