Berrigan Shire Council Launches New Online Cemetery Platform
Published on 07 August 2025
Berrigan Shire Council is proud to launch a new digital platform offering easy access to cemetery records and interactive maps for all four cemeteries across the Shire.
Developed in partnership with Chronicle, the platform preserves the rich history of our cemeteries while making it easier than ever for the public to explore and connect with local heritage. Through the online system, users can:
- Search burial records and locate specific graves
- Navigate directly to grave sites using GPS
- Access drone imagery and headstone photographs
- Explore interactive, easy-to-use maps of each cemetery
Mayor Julia Cornwell McKean said the initiative is a meaningful step forward in preserving local history and improving community access to important records.
“We’re delighted to launch this platform and offer a lasting resource for residents, historians, genealogists, and anyone with a connection to the region, Cemeteries hold important stories about our past, and this project helps us ensure those stories are preserved and accessible.”
Cemeteries provide a unique insight into our shared history, reflecting:
- Changing beliefs around death and remembrance
- The social and economic development of the area
- Personal stories of individuals and families across generations
- Significant local and national events that shaped our communities
The platform launch also coincides with an update to the cemetery section of Council’s website, where further information is now available.
