Cemeteries

Tocumwal Cemetery (2025) - All You MUST Know Before You Go (w_ Reviews & Photos).png

Council maintains cemeteries across the shire area and work with local funeral directors and families for cemetery-related services, including:

  • Burial and cremated remains interments
  • Ordering and placement of plaques
  • Assistance with genealogical records inquiries
  • Maintain interment records.

There is a cemetery in each town of the shire being

  • Tocumwal
  • Barooga
  • Berrigan
  • Finley

To improve accessibility and management of cemetery records, we’ve recently adopted 'Chronicle'—a user-friendly online platform that digitises cemetery records and maps.

Chronicle provides easy online access to cemetery records and information. Its user-friendly mapping tool lets anyone locate graves, explore individual plots, and discover the stories of those buried there—helping preserve connections across generations.

Cemetery Maintenance Standards

The Berrigan Shire Council's Cemetery Maintenance Standards reflects the intent of the NSW Cemeteries and Crematorium Act 2013 and other NSW legislation, regulations and guidelines relevant to the administration of cemeteries.

Council as the administrator of cemeteries is the sole determinant of dignified behaviour within cemetery. This includes what constitutes a dignified funeral, monument design and installation, and the placement of tributes in addition to the permanent monument.

To minimise conflict as to what Council considers dignified and appropriate conduct within cemeteries managed, Council has prepared and implemented this Cemetery Maintenance Standards.

This Cemetery Maintenance Standards provides the instructions necessary for Council staff to administer the routine functions of Council operated cemeteries.
