Berrigan Shire Heritage Study

The Heritage Study provides a comprehensive framework for managing Berrigan Shire Council’s heritage assets. It addresses all heritage matters within Council’s responsibility and supports the preservation of significant sites by establishing a clear, strategic approach to sustainable community development.

It seeks to ensure that the information within the Local Environmental Plan (LEP) is up to date and accurate. This information is then to be used to inform and aid in the assessment of development applications within the Shire of Berrigan.

When considering the objectives of the Act and Berrigan LEP it must be noted that heritage places are important for enriching our lives and our communities. Buildings, areas, landscapes and other places of heritage value provide a window to the past and to the very origins of our communities. Heritage places also add character, appeal and interest to our cities, towns and countryside. They are irreplaceable and precious and so their protection under the heritage items and conservations areas is an important function of the consent authority.
