Project Overview

The project involves the installation of new stormwater drainage infrastructure, including reinforced concrete pipes, drainage pits, kerb and gutter modifications and associated civil works. Minor pavement reinstatement and road surface restoration will also be undertaken. These works form part of Council's ongoing commitment to improving stormwater management, reducing the risk of localised flooding, and maintaining safe and reliable road infrastructure.

 

What residents can expect during construction

Council will be conducting these works in a staged approach, to best minimise impact on residents.
However, across the construction period, residents may be impacted through: reduced driveway access, changes to bin collection locations, temporary road closure and temporary water disruptions.

Residents are asked to park their vehicles within property boundaries where possible. Council will communicate potential impacts to residents in a timely manner. For major disruptions, residents will receive letterbox notifications.

Traffic management measures will be in place throughout the works to ensure the safety of residents, motorists, pedestrians, and construction personnel. Please follow all temporary traffic signs and directions provided by traffic controllers.

Date: Monday, 24 August 2026 (weather permitting)

Working Hours: 7:00am to 6:00pm, weekdays

Expected Duration: Approximately 6 weeks, weather permitting

UPDATE 15/9/2026

  • Recent progress includes the safe removal and disposal of asbestos cement (AC) driveway culverts, which have now been replaced with new concrete pipes. Reshaping of the existing open drain on the northern side, between Finley Street and the Newell Highway, has also been completed.
  • Current works include drainage alignment and reshaping works along Wells Street, between Finley Street and Howe Street.
  • The project experienced a three-day delay following the unexpected discovery of asbestos cement pipes within driveway culverts. These materials were safely managed and removed in accordance with the appropriate requirements, allowing works to continue.

Council appreciates the community’s patience and cooperation while these works are underway.
