Council is today announcing Mark Dupé as Interim Chief Executive Officer.  Mr Dupé will be starting at Council on Monday 14 July.

“Mark has significant experience as a senior executive and comes highly recommended to us as a safe pair of hands,” says Mayor Julia Cornwell McKean.

Mr Dupé has over 20 years of experience in Local Government, including as CEO at Baw Baw Shire Council from where he retired in late 2024.  He brings skills and experience in a range of relevant disciplines including governance and corporate services.

“We are pleased to have Mark on board so quickly and for him to have an opportunity to receive a handover from Karina.”

Existing CEO, Karina Ewer, resigned at the end of last month for family reasons and has accepted a role at Charters Towers Regional Council.

“We are very sorry to see Karina go but we understand her desire to move back to Queensland.  Karina’s four years at Berrigan Shire have been very positive.  I especially want to recognise her work spearheading Council’s digital transformation.  When Karina first arrived we did not even have an internet cable running to our office in Chanter Street capable of providing the broadband internet we needed,” said Mayor Julia.

Ms Ewer has led council through a challenging transition program that will continue to be rolled out in the coming years.  This will ensure that Council provides efficient and effective services to the community that not only work better but cost less.

“Council is pleased to welcome Mark to the team who we know will keep things running as we move to recruitment of a permanent CEO very soon.  We are sure he will ably continue the great work that Karina has done during her time here and wish her all the best for her new role at Charters Towers.”
