Small Business Grants

The purpose of the BSC Small Business Grant is to provide financial assistance to help with a specific goal or project.  The grants could be suitable for:

  • Business Startup: Assistance to implement part of a business plan for a new business, such as purchasing equipment or developing a product. The purchase of a personal computer, business insurance or rent are excluded.
  • Expansion:  Helping a small business to grow by funding marketing efforts.
  • Innovation and Technology: Supporting businesses that aim to develop new products, improve existing services, or adopt innovative technologies.
  • Education: Helping business to further the knowledge base of their employees.
  • Job Creation: Encouraging business to hire more employees.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The business must be based and registered within the Berrigan Shire Council boundaries.
  • A Small Business for the purpose of this grant is defined as having less than 10 FTE.
  • The applicant must have an annual revenue of less than $5M

Timing

 

  • The 2025 2026 program will open on the 29th of August 2025 and applications will be bi-monthly.
  • The grant will be open until all funds are expended or until the 30th of June 2026, whichever comes first.

    (The Council will review the program in December 2025 to determine if more funds can be allocated)

     

Conditions

  • Total Funds allocated to the pilot project is $20,000. The maximum funds available per application is $4000.  Smaller amounts will be given priority.
  • Applications can only be made through the online application form on the BSC website.

  • All eligible applications will be considered by a committee of 3 people. 

  • One application per business per financial year

  • Successful applicants will be required to complete an online acquittal form and submit receipts.

Assessment will be based on the following

  • Merits of proposal and how it aligns with the stated purpose of the grant program.
  • Budget and Quotes
  • Preference will be given to applicants who contribute their own funds on a $ for $ basis or better.

For example – Project to be undertaken is valued at $5000 and the funding request from the Council grant program is $2500

Quotes must be provided for the activity that is to be funded.

Preference will be given to an application that submits a Business Plan – essential for a start up.
