Berrigan Shire Council to sponsor the PGA Associates Championship

Berrigan Shire Council have agreed to sponsor the PGA Associates Championship at Tocumwal Golf & Bowls Club for the next 5 years.
PGA’s Membership Manager Luke Bower said, “The PGA of Australia are thrilled to extend the already great relationship with the Berrigan Shire and Tocumwal Golf Club by having committed to playing the Victorian PGA Associates State Championships for a minimum 5 years at Tocumwal Golf Club.”
The partnership which has formed over the past 18 years will see 140 PGA Associates and their accompanying partners travel to the region of each year to play for what is the largest prize money of offer for a PGA Associates State Championships. Commonly the tournament is held early May.
In addition to the 72 hole and tournament and Pro-am event that is conducted during the week of the tournament, the PGA Associates conduct golf clinics for the local schools to expose more juniors to playing golf.
In a first, 60 Victorian PGA Associates will again head to Tocumwal in the July school holidays to play along-side junior golfers from around the Berrigan Shire region in the PGA Junior Pro-Am played at Tocumwal Golf Club. Juniors from the region will receive guidance and be exposure to the next generation of PGA Members and some future PGA stars during the Junior Pro-Am as the PGA’s commitment to developing junior golf in the region.
Tocumwal Golf & Bowls Club’s Operations Manager, Kathy Giddens said, “Tocumwal Golf and Bowls Club is so proud to enter into a further 5-year agreement with the PGA for this event and match the Berrigan Shire’s generous commitment to make this the biggest prize purse for a state championship. This event benefits the club, our region and the local economy with golfers and family staying locally. It also presents our Shire as a golfing destination and showcases Tocumwal.”
