Finley Outdoor Water Odour Update
Finley Outdoor Water Odour Update
Published on 02 March 2026
Council is aware that some residents have noticed a strong odour in the outdoor water recently.
This has been an unusual season with warm days and nights, which can encourage certain types of algae to appear in our water sources. While the water is safe to use, the smell can be unpleasant and this is being monitored.
Filtered water quality testing is undertaken on the treated (filtered) drinking water supply in accordance with NSW Health requirements.
To provide reassurance, there is no issue or problem with the Finley drinking water.
For the raw water, Council recently drained and refilled the water tower with fresh water and are continuing to manage the supply this should lead to improved quality.
We expect that, with cooler weather approaching, the algae causing the odour will naturally reduce. This is being monitored by the Council team.
We thank residents for your patience and understanding.
Our team is closely watching the situation, collecting samples for testing, and will continue to provide updates as needed. If you have any concerns or notice ongoing issues, please contact Council so we can follow up.
Council encourages you to view Council updates on Facebook and Instagram and the Council website every few days.
