Council has received funding from the NSW State Government to conduct a Flood Risk Management Study and Plan for each of the townships and surrounds of Tocumwal and Barooga. The purpose of this study is to evaluate practical and feasible flood risk management options, both due to riverine flooding (from the Murray River), as well as overland flooding from local storms. This study will improve Council’s understanding of flood behaviour and impacts to better inform flood risk management, emergency planning, and land use decision-making in Tocumwal and Barooga. Up to date models will be used to test and recommend various flood mitigation options, such as levee upgrades and improvements to drainage infrastructure.

Community members are encouraged to participate in the study by sharing your experiences of flooding, highlighting flooding hot spots and problem areas, and making suggestions for improvements that we can investigate in this study.

Residents have two opportunities to have their say on flood risk management in Tocumwal and Barooga:

  1. Fill in a questionnaire about your experience(s) of flooding and drainage issues for the region. The questionnaire can be filled in online (https://arcg.is/55D0u1 or scan the below QR code). Hardcopies are available at the Berrigan Shire Counci's Office, Tocumwal Library and Barooga Library.
