Water in Tocumwal and Barooga is sourced from the Murray River and with fluctuating raw water quality, our Water Treatment Operators have had to adjust dosing of chemicals to suit treatment requirements.

Until today our Operators had managed to provide water within normal operational requirements, as it was anticipated water supply would return to normal soon.

Today Water NSW have issued an Amber Alert warning as the Yarrawonga Weir is measuring just below the Red Alert trigger value. Amber Alert indicates that the water be considered as unsuitable for potable use, requiring further treatment of raw water for domestic purposes.

To deal with this issue, our staff need to increase our dosing of the water to ensure it remains safe to drink. The increase in chemical management however, results in the strong smell and taste, which will remain obvious to users.

Our staff are working tirelessly to maintain the safety of Tocumwal and Barooga’s water supply and will continue to manage in accordance with Water NSW.
