Future Tocumwal - Town Centre Transformation
The community's vision for the future of Tocumwal!
The Future Tocumwal Town Centre Transformation is a long-term vision to revitalise Tocumwal's town centre over the next 20 years.
Developed in partnership with the community and adopted by Council in October 2025, the masterplan provides a roadmap for creating a safer, more accessible and more vibrant town centre that supports local businesses, enhances visitor experiences and celebrates Tocumwal's unique character.
As funding opportunities become available, Council will progressively deliver projects identified within the plans, ensuring the community's vision becomes a reality over time.
Stage One Funding Secured
We have secured $1,354,945 through Round 2 of the Sustainable Communities Program, a joint initiative of the Australian Government and NSW Government supporting regional resilience, job creation and economic development across the southern Murray–Darling Basin.
This funding will deliver Stage One of the Future Tocumwal Town Centre Transformation.
The first stage will include:
- Improved parking
- Upgraded drainage infrastructure
- New footpaths
- Streetscape enhancements
These works will improve safety and accessibility, enhance the appearance of the town centre and support local businesses by creating a more welcoming destination for residents and visitors alike.
Council will continue to pursue additional funding opportunities to progressively deliver future stages of the masterplan.
Future Stages
The Future Tocumwal Town Centre Transformation is a staged project that will be delivered over time as funding is secured.
Council remains committed to seeking external funding opportunities to implement additional stages of the plan and will continue to keep the community informed as new projects progress.

Completed Community Engagement
Community consultation for the Future Tocumwal Town Centre Transformation was undertaken between 17 February and 23 March 2025.
The engagement process attracted 45 written submissions, supported by pop-up information sessions, social media, letterbox drops, displays in libraries and the Visitor Information Centre, newspaper advertising and attendance at local events.
Feedback from the community directly influenced the final plan and helped shape the priorities for future investment. Key themes included:
- Improved pedestrian safety and crossings
- Upgrades to Barooga Street
- Parking improvements
- Preserving Tocumwal's heritage character
- Protecting the Tree of Knowledge
- Boat ramp access
- River Park improvements
