As part of Council's ongoing Integrated Rabbit Control Program, rabbit fumigation will be undertaken across a number of Council-managed sites. Rabbit fumigation will commence from Monday 27 July 2026.

It has been a busy month for Berrigan Shire Council with myself, Councillor Renee Brooker and our CEO, Cameron Boardman, heading to Canberra for the National General Assembly hosted by the Australian Local Government Association at the end of June.
The conference brings together councils from across the country to discuss common issues and to hear from members of the parliament. It is complemented with a specific regional forum and other sessions during the week including an opportunity for me to attend the Australian Council of Local Government event in parliament where I heard from a number of Ministers. In addition, Councillor Brooker attended a briefing from the Murray Darling Basin Authority’s CEO following the release of its ‘What we heard report’ following consultation relating to the Murray Darling Basin Plan review. As outlined in our official statement we welcome the report but are concerned on how this information will be used to resolve the longstanding failures of the broken Murray Darling Basin Plan.
Late in June the NSW Legislative Assembly Committee on Community Services released its report into a proposal to split the Murrumbidgee Local Health District. This followed my appearance at a public hearing for the inquiry in March. It was heartening to see my appearance and Berrigan Shire’s submission quoted significantly in the report. We remain hopeful, as outlined in our media release, that the NSW state government will identify and resolve the long-standing health inequities in our community.
Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that the 2026 Census will be taking place on 11 August and that we need each and every resident of Berrigan Shire to complete the form reflecting their residence in our shire. This is extremely important as the population figures and other demographics are used at all levels of government to determine what services and funding we receive here. Now, I know, that many of our residents retain second homes in other places and note that this is perfectly fine. However, if your primary residence is Berrigan Shire we need you to say that when you complete the Census because having a complete and accurate understanding of our population helps council provide and advocate for the services that you all want and need.
