Big Bag Recovery Scheme
Berrigan Shire Council is proud to support Big Bag Recovery (BBR), Australia’s only Australian Government-accredited product stewardship scheme for plastic sacks (LDPE) and woven polypropylene bulk bags and sacks (bags that carry 15 kg or 15 L or more of material).
The Challenge
Bulk bags and heavy-duty sacks are used across farming, food production, manufacturing and resources, but when they’re empty, the recycling pathway isn’t always obvious. That often means bags get stockpiled, mixed into general waste, or sent to a landfill.
For most people, the barrier isn’t willingness, it’s knowledge:
● “Are my bags accepted?”
● “Where do I take them?”
● “Will they actually be recycled?”
Benefits
Big Bag Recovery gives the community a simple, credible way to keep eligible bulk bags and sacks out of our waste facilities:

- Free for eligible program bags
