Food Premises

Council works to ensure all food being sold in the community is safe.

Council undertakes the following functions in relation to food safety:

  • The registration of food businesses
  • Assisting new or existing businesses to ensure compliance with food safety standards
  • Inspection of food businesses to ensure compliance with food safety standards
  • Investigation of food related complaints and food-borne illness.

Food Business Registration

Most businesses that produce or handle food for sale in NSW must officially notify either the NSW Food Authority or their local Council.

Food Business Classifications

Council is required to 'risk classify' all food premises. Find out more about the High, Medium, or Low Risk classifications.

Home-based Food Businesses

All home-based food businesses must notify and register with Berrigan Shire Council prior to operating.

Food Business Complaints

If you need to make a complaint about a food business in your area, you should notify Council. Find out what information you need to make a complaint.

Food Safety Fact Sheets

The NSW Food Authority has a range of fact sheets available to answer all your questions relating to operating a food business.

10:00am - 3:00pm Monday to Friday
Closed from 12-1pm for lunch
